March Update

March 12th, 2013 Posted in Announcement | No Comments »

Dear Friends,

This year, President Obama had two major opportunities, first in his Inauguration speech and then in his State of the Union speech, to reach across the aisle to Republicans and offer common ground solutions to tackle our nation’s spending problem. Unfortunately, he instead chose to dig his heels in and continue his campaign to raise taxes to pay for his spending spree.

The President failed once again to submit his budget to Congress by the February 4th deadline.  This is the fourth time in five years he failed to meet the deadline and today, more than a month later, he still has not put forth his budget plan to prioritize spending.  To make matters even worse, the Senate has not passed a budget in over 1400 days!

In order to stop the inaction, the No Budget No Pay law was enacted earlier this year, which requires both the House and the Senate to pass a budget by April 15th or not get paid until they do. The House of Representatives is expected to consider our budget plan setting our nation’s spending priorities and spending levels the week of March 18th.

You may be interested to learn that I was once again selected to serve as Chairman of the Natural Resources Committee, which has jurisdiction over American energy and mineral resources, public lands, environmental regulation, management of our nation’s oceans, and water and power issues.  As Chairman, I am dedicated to pursuing policies that both strengthen our economy and protect our nation’s treasured lands, oceans and wildlife.

This year, I was chosen by my colleagues to serve as a member of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, which is responsible for watching over virtually all aspects of government, from financial services to national security, health care to energy.  I’ll be monitoring government efficiency and accountability to make sure we’re cutting out waste, fraud and abuse to ensure our government is spending less and serving people better.

Though there is a constant struggle in Congress over spending, taxes, jobs, government regulations and balancing the budget, I can assure you that my priorities haven’t changed.  I will continue fighting to reduce federal spending, work to create American jobs and conduct a rigorous oversight of the Obama Administration’s policies.

Back in Central Washington, I enjoyed speaking at the Grant County Lincoln Day Dinner last month and seeing so many friends.  I look forward to speaking at the upcoming Franklin County and Okanogan County Lincoln Day Dinners later this month.

I’ll continue to send messages to you throughout the year to keep you updated on what’s happening in Congress.  I look forward to seeing many of you throughout 2013.  Please give us a call at the campaign office if you need to get ahold of our team at (509) 736-1510.

Sincerely,

Doc Hastings
