Keeping Taxes Low

Increasing taxes would harm our economy and cost jobs. We need to stop brand new taxes like the cap-and-trade national energy tax and prevent tax increases in order to allow Americans to keep more of their own money to save, spend or invest. Our complex tax system needs to be reformed and make simpler, fairer, more consistent and less of a burden.

I support extending the 2001 and 2003 tax relief into permanent law.

I worked in a bipartisan way to restore the state sales tax deduction so that Washingtonians could deduct their state sales tax from their federal income tax responsibility for the first time in 20 years – yet it must be renewed, and I believe it too should be made part of permanent law.

Relief from the death tax must be continued and efforts by Democrats to instate a value added tax must be stopped.

Restraint is needed and the federal government’s budget needs be balanced – and that should happen by cutting spending – not raising taxes.
